Optimize Productivity in Mammalian Cell Culture
Lacromin™ is recombinant human lactoferrin specifically produced for cell culture applications. Lacromin is a multi-functional protein; as such it is a potent cell growth factor with anti-apoptotic and anti-microbial properties.
Advantages
- Maximize productivity and cell growth
- Anti-apoptotic
- Well defined and consistent
- Animal free, regulatory friendly

Figure 1: HEK293 cells were cultured in serum-free media supplemented with either Lacromin™ (250 mg/L) or with plasma derived human transferrin (250 mg/L). Maximum cell density with Lacromin was four times the density of plasma derived human transferrin supplementation after 7 days in culture.

Figure 2: Hybridoma L243 cell growth and monoclonal antibody production was examined for IgG production. After four passages the highest IgG concentration level was seen at 5 mg/L of Lacromin and was significantly higher than that of transferrin at 5 mg/L.

Figure 3: CHO cells were cultured for 14 days in a commercial serumfree media alone or supplemented with either insulin (10 mg/L), IGF-1 (229 µg/L), Long R3 IGF (273 µg/L), Lacromin (400 mg/L) or Lacromin (800 mg/L). Lacromin at 400 and 800 mg/L increased antibody production to higher levels than the other treatment groups.
Potent Growth Factor
- Lacromin promotes HEK293 cell growth better than plasma derived human transferrin (Huang et al., In Vitro Cell. Dev. Biol., 2008) - Figure 1.
- Optimal concentration of Lacromin for use in HEK293 cell culture is between 50 and 100 mg/L (Huang et al., In Vitro Cell. Dev. Biol., 2008).
- Lacromin promotes CHO cell growth better than insulin, IGF and plasma derived human transferrin (InVitria, unpublished data).
- Optimal concentration of Lacromin for use in CHO and hybridoma cell culture is between 400 and 800 mg/L (InVitria, unpublished data) - Figure 3.
Enhances Antibody Production
- Lacromin outperforms transferrin and FBS for antibody production in hybridoma cells (Huang, et al., In Vitro Cell. Dev. Biol., 2008) - Figure 2.
- Lacromin outperforms insulin and IGF for antibody production in CHO cells (InVitria, unpublished data) - Figure 3.
